Description
Dow Jones & Co is currently looking for a Research Assistant to join our Private Markets team located in San Francisco. We are looking for an intelligent, positive, and responsible team player with high initiative, strong communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail to join our research department. The Research Assistant should be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, exhibit an inquisitive nature and be resourceful, eager, and able to learn quickly.

The Research Assistant will:
*Research the financing status and progress of venture capital and private equity-backed companies and investment firms.
*Update a proprietary research database using various sources, including Internet research, business journals, and other online and print publications.
*Learn venture capital and private equity lifecycle; and mechanisms of the private capital markets.
*Understand healthcare and information technology terminology and gain insight on general industry trends.
*Work independently on assigned research tasks to ensure timely completion.
*Effectively and professionally contact/interview company CEO’s, CFO’s, and Managing Partners to verify and update a company’s confidential financing data and other proprietary information.
*Participate in quarterly venture capital survey process coordinated by the survey research team.
*Master primary and secondary research methodology as defined by Research handbook.
*Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication ability/skill (in order to build rapport with industry contacts).
*Work under tight publishing deadlines in a goal oriented environment.
*Be a team player and flexible to contribute on other projects as needed.

Position Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Fluent English (spoken and written).
• Must be comfortable speaking effectively and professionally with CEOs, CFOs, and senior executives at entrepreneurial companies, venture capital firms, and other venture investors to produce detailed oriented work under tight deadlines.
• Experience in a PC/Windows environment primarily using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint helpful, and experience with Internet research preferred.
• Must be able to effectively gather company and financing data from regulatory filings to produce detail oriented work under tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of global stock exchanges and IPO markets is preferred.
• Knowledge of the venture capital and private equity industry, and exposure to SEC/regulatory filings and financial statements are a plus.
